  • Google has announced the release of the “Fitbit Air,” a screenless wearable tracker, in India on Friday, October 2, 2026.
  • The “Fitbit Air,” which has faced chronic shortages since its initial release, is now launching in rapidly growing India without the supply shortage issues being resolved.
  • As a result, even higher global demand is expected moving forward.

On Wednesday, September 30, 2026 local time, Google announced that the “Fitbit Air,” a screenless wearable tracker made by its subsidiary and fitness tracker manufacturer Fitbit, will be released in India on Friday, October 2, 2026.

The “Fitbit Air” has been experiencing chronic shortages since its initial launch, and it is now being introduced to economically booming India while those shortage issues remain unresolved. This means that a further surge in global demand is anticipated.

Put another way, Google may be reviewing its production systems in anticipation of surging demand for the “Fitbit Air.” If that is the case, the stock shortage issues could be resolved all at once.

“Fitbit Air”

The “Fitbit Air” is a screenless wearable tracker designed to make the most of the Gemini-powered health coaching feature, formerly known as the “Personal Health Coach” and now rebranded as the “Google Health Coach”.

It consists of a screenless core unit equipped with an optical heart rate monitor, 3-axis accelerometer, gyroscope, red and infrared sensors for blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) monitoring, skin temperature sensor, and a vibration motor, housed inside interchangeable wristbands. It delivers advanced fitness tracking, including 24/7 heart rate and heart rhythm monitoring with atrial fibrillation alerts, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), resting heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), and sleep stages and duration. The core unit weighs a mere 5.2g, with a total weight of just 12g including the band.

Because the “Fitbit Air” features a screenless design, tracked data can be checked via the “Google Health” app, formerly known as the “Fitbit” app.

Three types of wristbands are available: the “Active Band” made from recycled materials, the sweat- and water-resistant silicone “Performance Loop Band,” and the classic “Premium Modern Band,” each offering multiple color variations.

The “Fitbit Air” supports up to one week of battery life on a full charge. It also supports fast charging, providing a full day’s worth of power in just 5 minutes.

While wearing the “Fitbit Air,” you can start workouts and begin fitness tracking directly from the “Google Health” app, and tracking will also start automatically when workout onset is detected. The automatic workout detection feature becomes more accurate and personalized the more you use it.

Furthermore, the “Fitbit Air” appears to support long-awaited device switching. For example, it supports seamless switching between devices, such as wearing the “Google Pixel Watch” during the day and the “Fitbit Air” while sleeping.

The “Fitbit Air” is compatible with Android and iOS devices running Android 11 or later / iOS 16.4 or later. The official retail price of the “Fitbit Air” is 16,800 Japanese yen including tax.

On Thursday, August 27, 2026, a collaboration limited edition model called “Sleepy Blue” was added, created in partnership with “Pokémon Sleep,” an app born from Nintendo’s hugely popular “Pokémon” gaming franchise. This model is priced at 19,800 yen including tax.
