On Friday, May 29, 2026 (local time), Google released the May 2026 edition of “Gemini Drops,” introducing the latest features for its AI, “Gemini,” which were announced earlier this month.

With “Google I/O 2026” taking place this May, the update is packed with content and stands as one of the most significant releases so far. The lineup consists of nine features in total: “Gemini Spark,” “Gemini Omni,” “Daily Brief,” “Neural Expressive,” “Gemini 3.5 Flash,” a major update for the macOS version of “Gemini,” “Gemini Live” integration, dynamic & interactive “Gemini” responses, and the new “Google AI Ultra (20TB)” plan. While most of these are rolling out in Japan and for Japanese users, some features—such as the “AI Avatar” in “Gemini Omni” and certain parts of the macOS Gemini update—have not yet been announced for the Japanese market.

“Gemini Spark”

At “Google I/O 2026,” Google officially announced “Gemini Spark,” a personal AI agent for “Google AI Ultra” members designed to support their digital lives 24/7.

“Gemini Spark” is an advanced evolution of the “Gemini Agent” already available to “Google AI Ultra” members. Built on “Google Antigravity,” Google’s next-generation autonomous AI programming environment, it integrates with “Google Workspace” tools such as Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Sheets. It can perform tasks in the background even when your PC is closed or your smartphone is locked.

“Gemini Spark” also supports MCP (Model Context Protocol) connections for external systems and data sources like “Canva,” “OpenTable,” and “Instacart.” This support list is expected to expand, with new features being added regularly.

In addition, upcoming features include support for text messaging, email sending, custom sub-agent creation, and local browser operations.

“Gemini Omni”

At “Google I/O 2026,” Google officially announced “Gemini Omni,” a new group of AI models capable not only of generating high-quality video using multimodal inputs (images, audio, video, text) but also of video editing.

“Gemini Omni” is a new set of AI models that allow for easier video generation and editing through natural conversation. You can issue instructions in plain language to modify elements within a video—such as changing objects or adding new ones—while maintaining character consistency and contextual integrity.

It also includes a feature to generate a digital avatar by learning from your own appearance and voice, which can then be inserted into videos. With ready-to-use templates, even users without professional equipment or technical skills can easily create and edit videos.

“Gemini Omni Flash,” the first model in the “Gemini Omni” family, is currently rolling out to “Google AI Plus,” “Google AI Pro,” and “Google AI Ultra” members worldwide, including in Japan, via the “Gemini” app and “Flow.” It is also scheduled to become available for free on “YouTube Shorts.”

Please note that while the “Gemini” app’s “Gemini Omni (Gemini Omni Flash)” includes a custom “AI Avatar” creation feature, it is currently available only in English and not yet supported in the Japanese environment.

Important:

  • Currently, avatars are not available in the EEA, Switzerland, or the UK.
  • Currently, avatars are supported in English only.

“Daily Brief”

At “Google I/O 2026,” Google officially announced “Daily Brief,” a new productivity feature that provides a morning email summary of your schedule, key tasks, and the latest relevant information.

“Daily Brief” is a new AI agent based on “CC,” an AI agent feature powered by Google AI “Gemini” that has been testing on the “Google Labs” experimental platform for users in the US and Canada since December 16, 2025. Once you opt-in, it coordinates with Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, and the wider web to deliver a comprehensive briefing directly to your inbox every morning.

“Daily Brief” does more than just summarize information; it also suggests actionable next steps to help you stay on track toward your goals.

“Daily Brief” is rolling out to “Google AI Plus,” “Google AI Pro,” and “Google AI Ultra” members in the US. Information regarding its availability in Japan is not yet known.

“Neural Expressive”

At “Google I/O 2026,” Google officially announced “Neural Expressive,” a new design language being introduced to the Google AI “Gemini” app.

“Neural Expressive” is a fresh and engaging design language featuring smooth animations, vibrant colors, new typography, and haptic feedback. With this update, “Gemini” will provide more engaging and intuitive answers by incorporating not just long-form text, but also rich images, interactive timelines, narrated videos, and dynamic graphics.

“Neural Expressive” is being rolled out gradually to “Gemini” app users on Web, Android, and iOS worldwide.

“Gemini 3.5 Flash”

At “Google I/O 2026,” Google officially announced “Gemini 3.5,” the latest series of models for its Google AI “Gemini.”

The primary evolution of “Gemini 3.5” is the dramatic improvement in its capabilities as an AI agent. The first release from the series is “Gemini 3.5 Flash,” which delivers cutting-edge performance in agent-based processing and coding.

True to its name, “Gemini 3.5 Flash” is characterized by its high speed, achieving response times up to four times faster than previous AI models, while maintaining a high level of response quality.

“Gemini 3.5 Flash” is available to all users worldwide, including those in Japan, through the “Gemini” app. “Gemini 3.5 Pro” is also scheduled for release next month in June 2026.

Major Update for macOS “Gemini”

At “Google I/O 2026,” Google announced a major update to the macOS version of the “Gemini” app, which was originally released in mid-April 2026.

In the summer of 2026, the macOS “Gemini” app will introduce the “Gemini Spark” personal AI agent for “Google AI Ultra” members, enabling automation of local file tasks and desktop workflows.

The update will also integrate “Rambler,” the new voice input feature of the Gboard app being introduced as part of the next-generation “Gemini Intelligence” system. “Rambler” automatically removes speech disfluencies like “um” and “uh,” and trims redundant repetitions to extract only the key points of your input.

“Gemini Live” Integration

At “Google I/O 2026,” Google announced the integration of its intuitive conversation service, “Gemini Live,” into the “Gemini” app.

“Gemini Live” integrated into the “Gemini” app enables more natural conversations, with plans to support regional dialects in the future.

Dynamic & Interactive “Gemini” Responses

At “Google I/O 2026,” Google announced the introduction of dynamic & interactive responses for the Google AI “Gemini” app.

With these new responses, the “Gemini” app will provide more than just plain text. Answers will now include immersive elements, such as high-resolution images that users can zoom into to highlight information in specific layers, and captivating 30–60 second narrated video summaries. This allows users to understand Gemini’s responses in a much more visual and intuitive way.

New “Google AI Ultra (20TB)” Plan

At “Google I/O 2026,” Google announced and launched a new Google AI plan for its paid cloud storage service “Google One”: “Google AI Ultra (20TB).”

“Google AI Ultra (20TB)” is, as the name suggests, a derivative plan of the top-tier “Google AI Ultra” plan, which offers 30TB of storage. While the original “Google AI Ultra” was priced at an extremely high $249.99/month, the new “Google AI Ultra (20TB)” limits storage to 20TB and is priced accordingly at $99.99/month.

Alongside the launch of “Google AI Ultra (20TB),” the original “Google AI Ultra” has been renamed “Google AI Ultra (30TB)” and its price reduced from $249.99/month to $199.99/month. In Japan, “Google AI Ultra (20TB)” is available for 14,500 yen per month (including tax), and the price of “Google AI Ultra (30TB)” has been reduced by 4,000 yen from its previous price, bringing it to 32,000 yen per month (including tax).
