Google recently announced a new feature for the Android near-field sharing service “Quick Share” on Tuesday, May 12, 2026: the ability to share files with iOS devices via the cloud using QR codes.

However, at the time of the announcement, even if you scanned the “Quick Share” QR code on an iOS device, it would display “Cannot receive files from this sender,” making it impossible to send or receive files. But on or around Thursday, May 14, 2026, we confirmed that it is now finally possible to receive files on iOS devices by scanning these “Quick Share” QR codes.

“Quick Share” QR code sharing is a feature that enables file transfers via the cloud by having the receiving device scan a QR code generated on the sending Android device. While it previously supported Android and ChromeOS, it is now available for use on iOS devices as well.

The process for “Quick Share” QR code sharing is very simple: just tap “Use QR code” from the Android “Quick Share” sharing menu and scan the generated QR code with your iOS device’s camera. This will launch your browser app, allowing you to download the transferred file.

It is important to note that unlike the interoperability between “Quick Share” and “AirDrop,” “Quick Share” QR code sharing only supports file reception on iOS devices. It does not support sending files from iOS devices. In other words, it is a one-way street from Android to iOS devices.

Nonetheless, it is a fact that even for Android devices that do not support mutual “Quick Share” and “AirDrop” integration, it has become much easier to share files with iOS devices using “Quick Share” QR codes. Convenience has improved significantly.
