On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Google released the latest “What’s new in Google Home” update, which compiles new features and improvements for its smart home services.

This latest update announces the rollout of “Gemini for Home (Early Access)” to 16 countries and 7 languages, including Japan and Japanese, along with expanded support for Google Workspace accounts. While the expansion of “Gemini for Home (Early Access)” to Japan and the Japanese language was previously mentioned in the “What’s new in Google Home” update on March 17, 2026, it appears that this rollout has now officially begun.

Expansion of “Gemini for Home (Early Access)” Regions and Languages

“Gemini for Home (Early Access),” which was previously limited to the United States and Canada, has finally been expanded to include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Japan.

Along with this regional expansion, support for “Gemini for Home (Early Access)” has also grown from the original three languages (English, French, and Spanish) to a total of 10, adding Danish, Dutch, German, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, and Japanese.

Please note that the rollout of “Gemini for Home (Early Access)” to users in these new regions will take place over the next week. Updating the Google Home app (Android/iOS) to version 4.12 or later is required.

Enhanced Google Workspace Account Support

Previously, users building a smart home with a custom Google Workspace family domain (e.g., “@smithfamily.com”) could not invite family members with different domains or personal Gmail accounts to their home.

Greater flexibility has now been introduced, allowing members with different domains to be invited to a Google Workspace family smart home. Additionally, legacy Nest accounts can now be seamlessly migrated to Google Workspace accounts, enabling full access to the Google Home app for Android and iOS.

This allows users to set up Nest Thermostat, Nest Doorbell, and Nest Camera products using Google Workspace accounts. Furthermore, a one-click migration feature, currently in “Public Preview,” has been launched to allow for the easy consolidation of older Nest devices into the Google Home app.
