On Friday, September 19, 2025, the official Google online store, “Google Store,” released an article comparing the new Google Pixel Bluetooth earphones “Pixel Buds 2a,” launching next month on Thursday, October 9, 2025, with the previous model, “Pixel Buds A-Series.”
The “Pixel Buds 2a” are equipped with the “Tensor A1” processor, the same as the “Pixel Buds Pro 2,” and offer new features such as “Active Noise Cancellation” with Google’s proprietary “Silent Seal 1.5” technology. However, there are numerous other advancements compared to the previous “Pixel Buds A-Series.” Notably, the noise cancellation and other audio processing powered by the “Tensor A1” processor reportedly operate at 90 times the speed of sound.
This means that audio processing is executed rapidly according to the surrounding environment, resulting in high-performance “Active Noise Cancellation.”
The advancements of the new “Pixel Buds 2a” over the previous “Pixel Buds A-Series” include support for “Multipoint,” which allows seamless audio switching between two connected devices simultaneously, and support for Google’s location tracking service “Find Hub.” In essence, the new “Pixel Buds 2a” implement features equivalent to those of the “Pixel Buds Pro 2.”
While the previous “Pixel Buds A-Series” could only track the location of a paired Android device when connected via Bluetooth or the last known Bluetooth connection location, the new “Pixel Buds 2a” can now perform relatively real-time location tracking by utilizing the Android device network of other users. This means that location tracking comparable to that of a “Find Hub”-compatible Bluetooth tracker is now possible.
The continuous playback time has also been significantly extended, doubling from a maximum of 5 hours for the “Pixel Buds A-Series” to a maximum of 10 hours (with Active Noise Cancellation OFF). Even with “Active Noise Cancellation” turned ON, it supports up to 7 hours of continuous playback.
Features like swipe controls for volume adjustment and wireless charging for the charging case, which are present in the “Pixel Buds Pro 2,” are absent in the new “Pixel Buds 2a.” However, aside from these points, the differences are minimal. I personally rarely use the swipe volume adjustment on the “Pixel Buds Pro 2” because it can be sensitive and prone to accidental operations like stopping music playback. For those who feel similarly, the new “Pixel Buds 2a” might be a good option.
“Pixel Buds 2a”
The “Pixel Buds 2a” are the new Google Pixel Bluetooth earphones and are the successor to the “Pixel Buds A-Series,” the first budget-friendly Google Pixel Bluetooth earphones announced in June 2021.
The earbuds are not only lightweight and compact but also feature the “Tensor A1” processor, the same as the “Pixel Buds Pro 2.” Furthermore, they now support “Active Noise Cancellation” for the first time.
An “Ambient Sound Mode” is also implemented. Conversely, features found in the “Pixel Buds Pro 2,” such as swipe controls for volume adjustment and wireless charging for the charging case, are not supported.
Similar to the “Pixel Buds Pro 2,” the “Pixel Buds 2a” utilize a stabilizer design that involves twisting them into the ear for adjustment. They also support IP54 water and dust resistance, making them suitable for use during activities.
Continuous usage time is up to 10 hours with “Active Noise Cancellation” OFF / up to 27 hours with the charging case, and up to 7 hours with “Active Noise Cancellation” ON / up to 20 hours with the charging case. They also support “Gemini Live,” “Fast Pair (Bluetooth 5.4),” and “Find Hub.”
The “Pixel Buds 2a” come in two color options: purple-toned “Iris” and dark green-toned “Hazel,” with a official price of 23,800 yen (tax included).
