The “Fraud Detection” feature in the Google Phone app has been renamed to “Scam Detection” as of the app version v209 update released on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

The “Scam Detection” feature (formerly “Fraud Detection“) is a user protection tool where AI (Gemini Nano) screens the conversation when a call is received. If a call is suspected of being a scam, it alerts the user to the danger with a beep and an on-screen notification both at the start of and during the call. It provides alerts via beep and screen notifications not only for classic “It’s me” scams but also for the increasingly common “Fake Police Scams (Specialized Fraud),” where callers pose as police officers and incite anxiety about potential arrest to trick victims into transferring cash.
