Pixel 6 Pro and Later Officially Support Linked Cameras

  • “Connected Camera” officially supports Pixel 8 series and older devices.
  • Official announcement of “Connected Camera (host)” support for Pixel 6 Pro and later, including Pixel Fold.
  • Excludes Pixel 6, Google Pixel Tablet, and lower-end Pixel devices like Pixel 6a, 7a, 8a, and 9a.

Announced on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the “Connected Camera” feature, initially rolled out for the Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold in the March 2025 Pixel Drop, is now available. This feature was announced in March 2025 Pixel Drop.

“Connected Camera” allows seamless switching between camera shoots for video recording and live streaming. It enables wireless connection between a “host” Pixel 9 or Pixel 10 series device and “remote cameras,” which initially included Google Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 onwards and GoPro cameras from GoPro 10 onwards. In early September 2025, testing of “Connected Camera” on some Google Pixel devices, such as the Pixel 8, was confirmed.

Now, it appears that “Connected Camera” has officially expanded its support to include the Pixel 8 series and older devices. The “Connect a remote camera to a Google Pixel device” page on the official Google Pixel Help site has been updated, officially announcing “Connected Camera (host)” support for Pixel 6 Pro and later, including the Pixel Fold.

However, the Pixel 6, Google Pixel Tablet, and lower-end Google Pixel devices such as the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8a, and Pixel 9a do not seem to be supported. This means that the Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro are newly supported as “Connected Camera” host devices.

Incidentally, while Google Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 onwards initially supported the “remote camera” function of “Connected Camera,” support for the Pixel 6 as a “remote camera” has reportedly been removed in conjunction with the Pixel 6 Pro’s host device support. Other than this, the supported apps remain unchanged: “YouTube,” “Facebook,” “Instagram,” “Snapchat,” and “TikTok.”
