On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, Google highlighted the Pixel 10a—the new generation of its budget-friendly Google Pixel device, which launched internationally in the U.S. and other regions on Thursday, March 5, 2026—as a concrete example of its sustainability initiatives for hardware products.
While Google has long focused on the reuse of plastics in its hardware, the Pixel 10a goes significantly further. The device incorporates a wide range of recycled materials—including aluminum, cobalt, copper, gold, tin, tungsten, rare earth elements, and glass—into its chassis and internal components. As a result, the Pixel 10a achieves an industry-leading 36% recycled content by weight.
In line with European Union (EU) ecodesign requirements, Google also disclosed specific estimates of recycled material content: 10g to 20g of cobalt in the battery, 0.2g to 0.3g of neodymium in magnets such as those in the speakers, and 0.01g to 0.02g of gold across components. Through these sustainability efforts, Google states that it is promoting the creation of a circular economy that engages its entire supply chain.
