On Friday, January 16, 2026, the official Google Store e-commerce site published a blog post introducing the cross-compatibility between Android’s proximity sharing feature, “Quick Share,” and Apple’s proximity sharing feature, “AirDrop,” which launched unexpectedly in late November 2025.
The blog post released this time introduces “Quick Share” (formerly Nearby Share) and its interoperability with “AirDrop.”
Android’s proximity sharing feature, “Quick Share,” allows for sending and receiving files between Android devices, as well as Chromebooks and Windows PCs with the dedicated “Quick Share” for Windows app installed. With the next-generation Google Pixel “Pixel 10” series, interoperability with Apple’s “AirDrop” has been realized, making file transfers possible with iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
However, for cross-compatibility between “Quick Share” and “AirDrop,” the receiving side’s sharing settings must be set to “Everyone for 10 minutes.” While transfers between Quick Share devices or between AirDrop devices can be used instantly with pre-configured settings, the cross-compatibility feature requires the receiver to manually change their sharing settings at the time of the transfer. This is an important point to note regarding the interoperability between “Quick Share” and “AirDrop.”
Even so, the start of cross-compatibility between “Quick Share” and “AirDrop” was one of the major news items of 2025. Although it is currently only available on the “Pixel 10” series, further expansion is planned for the future.
