Nothing Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of the British venture “Nothing Technologies Limited (Nothing),” which has teased a new product announcement for Wednesday, January 7, 2026, officially teased the launch of the “Phone (3a) Lite” in Japan on its official website in late December 2025.
In other words, the new Nothing product for the Japanese market to be announced on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, is the domestic version of the “Phone (3a) Lite.” Rakuten Mobile has also similarly teased the launch of the domestic “Phone (3a) Lite.”
The domestic “Phone (3a) Lite” will likely be sold as a SIM-free model and as an exclusive carrier release from Rakuten Mobile, which has surpassed 10 million subscribers. One point of interest is whether the new “Blue” color of the “Phone (3a) Lite” announced in India on Thursday, November 27, 2025, will be brought to Japan, but that remains unknown for now.
Nothing Japan will also hold a collaboration event with Rakuten Mobile, the “Nothing x Rakuten Mobile Special Event,” at “Daikanyama T-SITE GARDEN GALLERY (MAP)” for two days, from Saturday, January 10, 2026, to Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Nothing Phone (3a) Lite
The “Phone (3a) Lite” Android smartphone, manufactured by the British venture “Nothing Technologies Limited (Nothing),” is a new addition to the “Phone (3)” series and the brand’s first entry-level model.
Despite the name “Phone (3a) Lite,” it is characterized by inheriting the design and features of the true new flagship “Phone (3)” rather than simply being a budget version of the “Phone (3a).” The device features a glass body and is IP54 water and dust resistant. It offers both durability and a premium feel, despite being an entry-level model.
On the back, it introduces the “Glyph Light” system, an evolution of Nothing’s unique “Glyph Interface.” The “Glyph Light” includes features such as “Flip to Glyph” for silent notifications when the phone is face down, “Essential Notifications” to alert you to contact from key people, and a “Camera Countdown” light for group photos.
The “Phone (3a) Lite” also features the “Essential Key,” an AI-focused button first introduced with the “Phone (3a),” located below the power button on the side of the device. The “Essential Key” supports three actions: [Single Press], [Long Press], and [Double Press]. A [Single Press] quickly saves captions from websites or images displayed on the screen; a [Long Press] records audio; and a [Double Press] opens “Essential Space,” a virtual personal space that automatically organizes and catalogs saved captions and recorded audio as “Smart Collections.” It also includes an “Essential Search” function to find content saved in “Essential Space” even when offline.
Key specifications of the “Phone (3a) Lite” include a 6.77-inch (2,392 × 1,080) Full HD+ AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro processor, 8GB RAM, 128GB / 256GB internal storage, and a 5,000mAh battery supporting 33W fast charging and 5W wired reverse charging. It runs on “Nothing OS 3.5” based on Android 15. The next-generation Android OS, “Nothing OS 4.0” (Android 16), is scheduled for rollout in early 2026. Furthermore, Nothing promises three years of major Android OS updates and six years of security updates from the launch date.
The camera setup consists of a triple rear camera (50MP main + 8MP ultra-wide + 2MP macro) and a 16MP center punch-hole front camera.
Additional features include “Smart Drawer” for automatic app organization, “Private Space” to protect personal files, and “App Locker” to lock individual apps. It even includes an advanced liquid cooling system to ensure stability during high-load processing and gaming.
The “Phone (3a) Lite” is available in two colors, “White” and “Black,” and two configurations: 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage or 8GB RAM + 256GB internal storage. However, a third color, “Blue,” will also be available in limited regions.
