On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the UK-based venture company “Nothing Technologies Limited (Nothing)” announced two new features as a major upgrade to “Essential Space,” the AI function on its Android devices that utilizes the physical “Essential Key.”
The two major upgrades rolling out to “Essential Space” are new features for “Essential Memory,” which links “Essential Space” with the AI search “Essential Search,” and for the voice recorder function “Essential Recorder (Flip-to-Record).” Previously, “Essential Space” simply added content like screenshots, URL links, notes, and photos. With “Essential Memory,” it will now recognize the context behind the added content, allowing users to retrieve it through natural conversational searches.
For example, if you save a poster photo in “Essential Space” with the tag “December event,” you can later search within “Essential Space” by asking, “Anything interesting happening next month?” and “Essential Search” will retrieve the poster photo tagged “December event.” In other words, “Essential Memory” is a new feature where “Essential Space” recognizes the context of the content you save, and “Essential Search” uses that context to find it for you.
For the voice recorder function “Essential Recorder (Flip-to-Record),” the major upgrade to “Essential Space” will roll out several new features: the ability to take photos/upload images during recording, take text notes during recording, a new recording UI, an improved recording details page, and post-recording AI support. The ability to take photos, upload images, and add text notes while recording with “Essential Recorder” will allow users to add more detailed context to their recordings.
To accommodate the addition of taking photos, uploading images, and adding text notes during recording in “Essential Recorder,” the recording UI will also be revamped to consolidate necessary tools in one place for easier operation. The details page for recorded audio will also be improved to display photos taken, images uploaded, and notes written during the recording on a timeline.
Furthermore, the AI support feature will be expanded not only to display transcripts and AI summaries of the recorded audio but also to include photos taken, images uploaded, and text notes in those transcripts and summaries. Audio recorded with “Essential Recorder” can now be utilized more intelligently within “Essential Space.”
These major upgrades for “Essential Space” will be rolled out through an update to the “Essential Space” app.
