- Google has announced the rollout of an automatic synchronization feature for Google Drive files in “NotebookLM.”
- Google Drive files added to a “Notebook” in NotebookLM will now be automatically synchronized.
- The rollout is being implemented in phases.
On Wednesday, May 27, 2026 (local time), Josh Woodward (@joshwoodward), Head of Google’s Gemini app (@GeminiApp), announced the rollout of an automatic synchronization feature for Google Drive files within the AI research tool “NotebookLM.”
Previously, when adding files stored in Google Drive as sources in a NotebookLM “Notebook,” the information was registered only as it existed at the time of addition. If the original Google Drive file was updated later, those changes were not synchronized. This meant that users had to manually re-add the updated files as sources in the Notebook.
However, Google Drive files added to a NotebookLM “Notebook” will now be automatically synchronized. Please note that this automatic synchronization feature is currently being rolled out in phases and is only available to about 10% of users so far.
Josh Woodward has indicated that the rollout of the automatic synchronization feature for Google Drive files in NotebookLM will expand soon. It should be noted that while the web version of NotebookLM supports adding Google Drive files as sources, the Android and iOS versions of the Google NotebookLM app do not currently support this feature.
