I’m Jun Ishii, the administrator and writer for this site, “Jetstream.” Thank you for always reading.

Since late September 2025, sparked by an article published on our site, there has been non-stop buzz about new e-money services, a new “E-Wallet” section, bank account linking, and cryptocurrency wallet integration expected to come to the Android digital wallet management service, “Google Wallet (Japan version).” Therefore, in this article, we will summarize the new features and services for “Google Wallet” that are currently being discussed as possibilities.

New E-money

The e-money services expected to be supported soon in the Japanese version of “Google Wallet” are several transit IC services: “ICOCA” by JR West, “TOICA” by JR Central, “Kitaca” by JR Hokkaido, and “nimoca” by Nimoca Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Nishi-Nippon Railroad.

With the addition of these four services to the existing “Suica” and “PASMO,” the total number of Google Wallet-compatible transit IC services will be six. Of course, the addition of other services is also anticipated.

New “E-Wallet” Section

The three services expected to be newly supported by the Japanese version of “Google Wallet” are “PayPay Money (verified account balance),” “au PAY Prepaid Card,” and “d Payment (docomo account linked type).”

These are expected to be NFC payments utilizing NFC (Type-A/B). This NFC payment functionality for “PayPay Money (verified account balance),” “au PAY Prepaid Card,” and “d Payment (docomo account linked type)” is planned to be supported under a new “E-Wallet” section in the Japanese version of “Google Wallet.”

Bank Account Linking

Following the “E-Wallet,” the next new feature expected to be supported by the Japanese version of “Google Wallet” is bank account linking.

The banks currently lined up are “MUFG Bank,” “Mizuho Bank,” “Japan Post Bank,” and “Rakuten Bank.” It is anticipated that the bank account linking feature in “Google Wallet” will support not only charging the “E-Wallet” but also person-to-person money transfers.

Cryptocurrency Wallet Integration

Finally, the last new feature expected to be supported by the Japanese version of “Google Wallet” is cryptocurrency wallet integration.

At present, integration with “Rakuten Wallet,” a Financial Services Agency-registered cryptocurrency exchange from the Rakuten Group, has surfaced. However, the specific functions of this cryptocurrency wallet integration are unknown.

It is currently unclear whether the cryptocurrency wallet integration will be limited to a simple cryptocurrency management service or if it will also support functions like charging the “E-Wallet.” Furthermore, any integration with cryptocurrency exchanges other than “Rakuten Wallet” is also unknown at this time.
