On Monday, September 29, 2025, American Express International, Inc. (American Express) officially announced that its “American Express” credit cards now support “Google Pay” contactless payments through the Android digital wallet management service, “Google Wallet.”
Support for “American Express” in “Google Wallet (Google Pay)” was previously confirmed in late September 2025, but it appears the official support begins on Monday, September 29, 2025. Coinciding with this official launch, the “Check supported payment methods (Japan)” page on the official Google “Google Wallet Help” site has also been updated, adding a note about American Express’s support for “Google Pay.”

The eligible “American Express” cards for “Google Pay” are the personal, business, and corporate cards issued by American Express International, Inc. (Japan Branch). Furthermore, it supports registration not only on the Android version of the “Google Wallet” app but also on the Wear OS version.
However, please note that for both the Android and Wear OS versions of the “Google Wallet” app, while it supports NFC contactless payments (“Amex Contactless”), it does not support FeliCa-based QUICPay payments.
