  • Demo images of the touchpad feature for “Googlebook,” which utilizes an Android device’s display, have been revealed.
  • An analysis of the app files for the Android “Cross-device services” app (v1.0.1265.970680556 to v1.0.1305.987761788) confirmed the addition of demo images and settings images for a feature that turns an Android device’s display into a touchpad when paired with “Googlebook.”
  • The touchpad feature utilizing an Android device’s display may not be rolled out at the initial launch of “Googlebook.”

Pre-orders for “Googlebook”—Google’s new laptop brand designed for the next-generation intelligent system “Gemini Intelligence”—began in overseas markets such as the US on Monday, September 21, 2026.

“Googlebook” comes with numerous integration features with Android devices, such as the Android app streaming service, which allows users to operate Android apps directly from “Googlebook.” Naturally, many new integration features are also currently in preparation.

One of these is the touchpad feature that utilizes the display of a paired Android device. Demo images of this feature have come to light through our site “Jetstream’s” original app file analysis report content, “App Teardown,” and we would like to introduce them here.

An analysis of the app files for the Android “Cross-device services” app v1.0.1265.970680556 to v1.0.1305.987761788 confirmed that demo images and settings images for a feature that turns an Android device’s display into a touchpad when paired with “Googlebook” have been added. However, these demo images are UI representations based purely on resource code.

<activity android:theme="@style/Theme.ExoCastTheme.Translucent"
    android:name="com.google.ambient.streaming.appstreaming.touchpad.TouchpadActivity"
    android:exported="false" android:screenOrientation="portrait"/>
<string name="one_finger_drag_instruction">One finger drags the pointer</string>
<string name="two_finger_scroll_instruction">Two fingers scrolls or pans</string>
<string name="tap_select_instruction">Tapping selects an item</string>
<string name="touchpad_google_cast_title">Google Cast</string>
<string name="touchpad_menu_settings">Settings</string>
<string name="touchpad_more_options_description">More options</string>

<string name="touchpad_back_description">Back</string>
<string name="touchpad_menu_exit_fullscreen">Exit fullscreen</string>
<string name="touchpad_menu_stop_casting">Stop casting</string>
<string name="touchpad_stop_casting_failed">Failed to stop casting</string>
<string name="touchpad_volume_up_description">Volume up</string>
<string name="touchpad_volume_down_description">Volume down</string>
<string name="touchpad_settings_title">Cast trackpad settings</string>
<string name="touchpad_settings_back_description">Navigate up</string>

<string name="touchpad_settings_natural_scrolling_description">Scrolling moves content in the same direction as your fingers.</string>
<string name="touchpad_settings_tracking_speed">Tracking speed</string>

What is concerning, however, is that the resource code related to the “Googlebook” touchpad feature using an Android device’s display has been completely removed in the latest version of the Android “Cross-device services” app. It remains unclear whether this is temporary or if development has been scrapped without a rollout. For now, there is a possibility that the touchpad feature utilizing an Android device’s display will not be available at the initial launch of “Googlebook.”
