On Sunday, January 11, 2026, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the business expansion of Wing, an autonomous lightweight delivery drone company, during a presentation at the National Retail Federation (NRF) regarding the implementation of AI platforms for retailer growth.

Wing is a subsidiary of Google’s parent company Alphabet that utilizes highly automated, lightweight delivery drones to provide a service that delivers packages between businesses, homes, and medical institutions in just minutes. Currently, it handles hundreds of thousands of delivery operations across three continents and several major cities in the United States.

As part of this expansion, it was announced that the number of stores offering drone delivery for products from the U.S. supermarket chain “Walmart”—a partnership established in 2025—will be expanded to 150 locations over the coming year. Along with this, drone delivery operations will begin in Houston, Texas.

Furthermore, drone delivery is scheduled to launch in Orlando, Tampa, Charlotte, and other cities. By 2027, the company plans to build a network of over 270 drone delivery hubs stretching from Los Angeles to Miami.

Regarding drone delivery in Japan, demonstration experiments have begun mainly in mountainous areas, depopulated regions, and remote islands through the cooperation of ANA, KDDI, and local governments, but the move toward full-scale commercialization is still ongoing.
