The upcoming support for Softbank’s “PayPay Money,” KDDI’s “au PAY,” NTT Docomo’s “d Payment,” and Rakuten’s “Rakuten Pay” within Google Wallet’s cashless payment feature, Google Pay, on Android has been a hot topic in the community since it suddenly emerged a few days ago.
New information was updated on October 13, 2025 (Mon), so I’d like to report on the progress. Please note that, once again, this information comes from an analysis of the HTML code on the “Check supported payment methods (Japan)” page of the official “Google Wallet Help” site, and is not an official announcement from Google or its related companies.
In this latest update, more details have been revealed about the providers and supported methods for the new “E-wallet” section in Google Wallet. Additionally, while the exact service details are still unclear, new descriptions have been added that allow us to infer what the “E-wallet” service will entail.
First, here are the details of the new “E-wallet” section in Google Wallet, as updated on October 13, 2025 (Mon).

It has now been revealed that “PayPay Money (verified account balance)” and “au PAY Prepaid Card” will support contactless NFC payments and online payments. This is the long-awaited NFC payment support for “PayPay Money (verified account balance)” and “au PAY Prepaid Card.”
“d Payment (Docomo account linked type)” is also expected to support NFC payments, but the description only states it “Supports in-store use via Google Wallet.” Meanwhile, the mention of “Rakuten Pay” has been removed in this update. However, for reasons I will explain later, it is possible it will reappear in the future.
Next, a new “Bank Account / Remittance Service Linkage” section has appeared. Currently, Google Wallet in Japan does not support remittance services, but this intriguing new section has been added.
While the old “Google Pay” offered in places like Singapore did support remittance services, such services have never been provided for “Google Pay” or “Google Wallet” in Japan. However, the appearance of the “Bank Account / Remittance Service Linkage” section has suddenly raised the possibility that a new remittance service will be launched.
For now, the financial institutions listed in the “Bank Account / Remittance Service Linkage” section of Google Wallet are “Japan Post Bank,” “Rakuten Bank,” “MUFG Bank,” and “Bank Pay affiliates (Resona, Yokohama, Fukuoka, etc.).”

What can be inferred from this new “Bank Account / Remittance Service Linkage” section is that it will become possible to directly top up “PayPay Money (verified account balance),” “au PAY (au PAY Prepaid Card),” and “d Payment (Docomo account linked type)” registered as “E-wallets” from the listed financial institutions (“Japan Post Bank,” “Rakuten Bank,” “MUFG Bank,” and “Bank Pay affiliates (Resona, Yokohama, Fukuoka, etc.)”) directly through Google Wallet. In other words, it’s possible that users will be able to directly top up their registered “E-wallet” services within Google Wallet, similar to how it currently works for supported e-money services in Japan like “Suica,” “PASMO,” “Rakuten Edy,” and “WAON.”
*Note: “nanaco” does not support top-ups from Google Wallet.
Furthermore, since “Rakuten Bank” is listed as a supported financial institution in the “Bank Account / Remittance Service Linkage” section, it is highly likely that “Rakuten Pay,” which was removed from the “E-wallet” section, will be reinstated in the future. Therefore, it appears that the Google Wallet service in Japan may undergo a major overhaul, introducing not only the “E-wallet” feature but also remittance services. Keep a close eye on future developments.
