On Wednesday, December 11, 2025, Google launched a new feature in the US for its Google Shopping “virtual try-on” function, which had also become available in Japan on Thursday, October 9, 2025. This new feature allows users to generate a full-body photo from a selfie to use the “virtual try-on” service.
Until now, the “virtual try-on” feature has been a virtual fitting tool where users could tap or click the “Try on” icon from apparel search results in “Google Search,” “Google Shopping,” or “Google Images,” and upload their own full-body photo. In a few seconds, an image of the user wearing that apparel item would be generated.
However, “virtual try-on” now incorporates Google’s new image generation AI model, “Nano Banana (Gemini 2.5 Flash Image).” On a dedicated page, users can now upload a selfie showing only their upper body and select their usual clothing size to generate a full-body photo, enabling them to use the “virtual try-on” feature.
However, as mentioned earlier, this full-body photo generation type of “virtual try-on” is currently available only in the United States.
