On Wednesday, April 2, 2026, Google announced a series of new features for its AI-powered video creation assistant service, “Google Vids,” which is part of the Google Workspace suite.
These new “Google Vids” features integrate the “Veo 3.1” video generation AI model along with the “Lyria 3” and “Lyria 3 Pro” music generation AI models, allowing users to create high-quality videos and soundtracks more intuitively. Additionally, a new Chrome extension called “Google Vids Screen Recorder” has been launched for free, enabling easy screen recording.
“Veo 3.1” Now Available for Free
All Google account users now have free access to the video clip generation feature powered by the “Veo 3.1” video generation AI model.
This allows anyone to generate high-quality video simply by entering a short text prompt or uploading a photo. Please note that while free, usage is limited to 10 generations per month.
Introduction of “Lyria 3” and “Lyria 3 Pro”
For “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” members, custom background music generation features powered by “Lyria 3” and “Lyria 3 Pro” are now being rolled out.
Users can easily create original background music tailored to the style of their video, ranging from 30-second short clips to full-length tracks up to 3 minutes long.
Advanced “AI Avatars”
Also available for “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” members is an advanced “AI Avatar” feature powered by “Veo 3.1.”
These “AI Avatars” maintain consistent vocal and facial identity while supporting interactions tailored to uploaded objects—such as product images—and allowing for customization of clothing and backgrounds to match the mood of the video.
Chrome Extension and More

The “Google Vids Screen Recorder” Chrome extension is now available for free, allowing users to start screen recording or capture their webcam with just a single click from anywhere in their browser.
Additionally, a feature to export and upload videos edited in “Google Vids” directly to “YouTube” is finally being released. With the introduction of these new features, “Google AI Ultra” and “Workspace AI Ultra” memberships will now support up to 1,000 “Veo” video generations.
