The “Gemini” update for Google Translate enhances multilingual support and provides convenient alternative expressions for translating idioms and colloquialisms. For instance, if you’re looking for different ways to say “it’s pouring rain,” tapping “Show alternatives” will provide clear hints on how and why to use different expressions, allowing you to find the perfect phrasing for any conversation.
Furthermore, tapping the “Understand” button will display detailed explanations regarding the nuances of each option. You can also tap “Ask” to pose specific questions to Gemini about the context, such as how something might be said in a particular country or dialect.
These Gemini updates for Google Translate are initially being rolled out to the Android and iOS versions of the Google Translate app in the US and India. A rollout to the web version of Google Translate is also planned for the near future.
