Google Store Stops Displaying Maximum Estimated Trade-in Values

Key Points of This Article
  • The Google Store has discontinued displaying the post-trade-in price when using the “Trade-in Program.”
  • The previously displayed post-trade-in price was an *effective* price, assuming the maximum possible trade-in value when purchasing an eligible Google Pixel device using the “Trade-in Program.”
  • It is presumed this change was due to numerous complaints from customers who used the trade-in program, and likely also due to accusations of violating the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations (景品表示法 / 景表法).

The official Google e-commerce site, the Google Store, had previously introduced a system of displaying post-trade-in prices for purchases using the Trade-in Program.

As of late November 2025, the Google Store is holding its annual major sales event, the Black Friday Sale. While the trade-in values for the new generation of Google Pixel devices—the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold—have been increased for the “Trade-in Program,” it appears the post-trade-in price display has been abolished this time.

The post-trade-in price display previously used on the Google Store was an *effective* price based on the assumption of receiving the maximum possible trade-in value when purchasing an eligible Google Pixel device with the “Trade-in Program.” In other words, it was an uncertain price. If the actual trade-in value was lower than the maximum estimate, customers would naturally end up paying more for their Google Pixel device than the price displayed.

In fact, it was likely quite common for the actual trade-in value to be lower than the maximum estimate. From the consumer’s perspective, this would lead to the reaction, “Hey, this isn’t the price that was shown!”

It’s unclear whether this was due to a large number of such complaints, or because of the potential for it to conflict with the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations (景品表示法 / 景表法), but for now, the Google Store appears to have discontinued this post-trade-in price display. Of course, for devices with guaranteed discounts, the pricing is clearly displayed with those discounts applied.

Presumably, there were many complaints from customers using the “Trade-in Program,” as well as many accusations of violating the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations (景品表示法 / 景表法). However, there’s always a possibility it might return.
