Google Shopping’s Virtual Try-On Expands to Japan

  • Google is expanding its “virtual try-on” tool, initially launched in the U.S., to Australia, Canada, and Japan.
  • A virtual try-on tool where users can tap or click the “Try on” icon from apparel search results in Google Search, Google Shopping, or Google Images and upload a full-body photo of themselves to generate an image of them wearing the item in seconds.
  • Supports apparel categories such as tops, bottoms, dresses, and shoes.

On Thursday, October 9, 2025, Google announced the regional expansion of its “virtual try-on” feature. This feature was initially launched in the U.S. in May 2025 as an opt-in trial feature via “Search Labs” and was later made generally available in the U.S. on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Google’s “virtual try-on” will become available in Australia, Canada, and Japan within the next few weeks on Google Search, Google Shopping, and Google Images.

“Virtual try-on” is a tool that allows you to tap or click the “Try on” icon from apparel search results on Google Search, Google Shopping, and Google Images. By uploading a full-body photo of yourself, an image of you wearing the item is generated in seconds. Since a photo is created with you as the model, you can make a more confident purchasing decision about the product.

If you like it, you can go directly to the e-commerce site to purchase it. Of course, you can also save the generated photos or share them on social media.

“Virtual try-on” supports apparel categories such as tops, bottoms, dresses, and shoes.

Incidentally, in the U.S., along with the general rollout of “virtual try-on,” an upgraded Google Shopping price alert feature was also introduced. This feature notifies you through the Google app for Android/iOS when an offer matching your pre-specified size, color, and budget appears. However, this feature has not been expanded with the current “virtual try-on” rollout.
