“Search Live,” a new feature for conversational AI search in “AI Mode,” was announced by Google on July 29, 2025, and launched in the United States on September 24, 2025.
It appears that “Search Live” began rolling out in Japan and for Japanese language environments in March 2026. I have confirmed the rollout of “Search Live” on several Google accounts registered on my own Android devices.
However, it seems this is currently a limited test rollout for specific Google accounts and has not yet been widely released.
“Search Live” is essentially “Gemini Live” for “AI Mode.” While “Search Live” functions just like the “Gemini Live” AI conversation service, the key difference is how they are accessed: “Gemini Live” is launched via the Gemini app, whereas “Search Live” is accessed by tapping the “Search Live” icon on the home screen of the Android/iOS Google app.
Once “Search Live” is enabled, the song search icon (“♪” – search for a song) on the home screen of the Android and iOS Google app is replaced with the “Search Live” icon, which matches the “Gemini Live” design.
Just like “Gemini Live,” “Search Live” allows you to converse with an AI and supports video sharing using your smartphone’s camera. This means you can ask “Search Live” questions about the objects or scenes you are capturing with your camera.
Additionally, even if you minimize the Android or iOS Google app, “Search Live” allows you to continue the conversation, just like “Gemini Live.”
