On Friday, October 3, 2025, Google’s Japanese subsidiary, Google Japan, reported a FeliCa issue occurring on the domestic versions of the Google Pixel devices: “Pixel 6,” “Pixel 6 Pro,” and “Pixel 6a.”
The FeliCa issue reported by Google Japan for the “Pixel 6,” “Pixel 6 Pro,” and “Pixel 6a” is that “Osaifu-Keitai,” which uses FeliCa, may not work correctly on some devices. As this is a FeliCa-related bug, it is an issue specific to the Japanese domestic models of the “Pixel 6,” “Pixel 6 Pro,” and “Pixel 6a.”
This is a serious bug that can make many of Japan’s essential daily life infrastructures unusable, including transit IC cards and cashless payment systems like Mobile Suica, Mobile PASMO, Mobile ICOCA, Rakuten Edy, iD, QUICPay, nanaco, and WAON. It’s a problem that could significantly impact users’ daily lives.
In response to this “Pixel 6,” “Pixel 6 Pro,” and “Pixel 6a” FeliCa issue, Google Japan has stated that they are investigating and working on a solution as a top priority. They also announced that a software update will be released promptly as soon as it is ready.
As a precaution, they are also advising users to refrain from restarting their devices, which includes swapping SIM/eSIM cards or turning the power off, until the reported FeliCa issue on the “Pixel 6,” “Pixel 6 Pro,” and “Pixel 6a” is fixed. Being unable to swap SIM/eSIM cards or restart the device… sounds like being completely stuck, doesn’t it?
