On Wednesday, October 7, 2026 local time, Google announced “Playground (playground.google),” a browser-based experimental gaming platform that allows users to create original games through prompts.

Until now, game creation has been limited to a select group of creators with programming knowledge or the ability to handle complex game engines. “Playground,” announced today, is a gaming platform that requires no coding experience, enabling users to shape the games they want to make simply by providing text prompts.

“Playground”

Game creation on “Playground” proceeds in an interactive format. In addition to starting from scratch, users can remix provided sample prompts or use guide features to solidify their ideas, and test the created games immediately on the spot. Adjusting physics, changing rules, and customizing characters or backgrounds are all reflected simply by giving instructions.

Because “Playground” is browser-based, it can be played on both smart devices and desktop PCs. Completed games can be kept private, shared via link to play with friends and family, or published to the “Playground Explore” gallery for other users to play. Selected genres also support in-game leaderboards and multiplayer functionality.

Furthermore, by using a “Google Play Games” profile, users can set a unique handle, “like” their favorite games, compete for top leaderboard spots, and follow creators to check out new releases. The gallery features notable games based on player ratings and gameplay statistics. All published games undergo safety reviews in accordance with community guidelines, and a user reporting feature is also provided.

“Play now”

Additionally, “Playground” is scheduled to integrate in the future with “Unity Spark,” a game development tool currently being developed by the game engine “Unity.” “Unity Spark” is a tool that provides access to full-fledged game mechanics, high-definition 3D rendering, and the “Unity” runtime environment, allowing games started via “Playground” text prompts to be developed into more immersive works. “Unity Spark” itself is currently in testing, with a closed beta rollout planned soon.

Note that “Playground” has begun rolling out to users aged 18 and older in the United States. The scope of game creation capabilities will be made available in phases depending on Google One Google AI memberships.

There has been no announcement yet regarding the release timing of “Playground” in regions outside the US, such as Japan.
