In late January 2026, we reported that the integration of the latest design system, “Material 3 Expressive,” had begun to appear in the Android “Google Play Store” app around version v49.7 and “Google Play Services” v26.03.
Subsequently, with the Android “Google Play Store” app v49.9 update released on Monday, February 2, 2026, the integration seems to have rolled out more broadly. We have confirmed the “Material 3 Expressive” integration on almost all Android devices running the v49.9 update.
In the Android “Google Play Store” app where “Material 3 Expressive” has been integrated, the design of “progress indicators”—such as app download/install icons and loading icons—has been overhauled. It now features signature “Material 3 Expressive” elements, such as wavy animations and seamless transitions between icon shapes.
