At the “GDC Festival of Gaming (GDC),” one of the world’s largest game developer conferences held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Google announced six new features for its gaming platform, “Google Play Games.”
The features announced by Google at GDC include the expansion of the game library, a new “PC” section for the “Games” tab in the Android “Google Play Store” app, “Game Trials” that allow users to try out premium game titles for free, “Buy Once, Play Anywhere” for cross-platform access between mobile and PC, a “Community” space, and the in-game overlay tool “Google Play Games Sidekick.” With this announcement, Google also signaled that more updates are planned to be released throughout the year.
Expansion of the Game Library
The lineup of premium games on “Google Play Games” is set to expand.
Over the next few months, indie games such as “Moonlight Peaks,” “Sledding Game,” and “Low-Budget Repairs” will be added, making them playable on both mobile and PC. By utilizing your “Gamer Profile,” progress will also be automatically synced across devices.
New “PC” Section
A dedicated “PC” section will be added to the “Games” tab within the Android “Google Play Store” app, gathering games optimized for Windows PC (Google Play Games on PC).
This will make it easier for users to discover games they want to play on “Google Play Games for PC” directly from the Android app. You can also add games you are interested in to your wishlist to receive notifications when they go on sale.
“Game Trials”
“Game Trials” is a literal trial feature that allows you to test the full version of premium games completely for free and without risk.
Game Trials will initially be available for select premium mobile games, with plans to expand to “Google Play Games on PC” in the future. Additionally, game data from your trial will carry over once you purchase the full version, ensuring a seamless experience.
“Buy Once, Play Anywhere”
“Buy Once, Play Anywhere” is a new initiative that allows you to play both the mobile and PC versions (Google Play Games on PC) of a game with a single purchase.
In other words, there is no need to purchase the mobile version and the “Google Play Games on PC” version of the same title separately. This feature will be rolled out for select titles such as the “Reigns” series, “OTTTD,” and “Dungeon Clawler.”
“Community”
A dedicated “Community” space will be introduced within “Google Play Games,” where users can share questions, answers, and walkthrough tips regarding games.
The feature will launch in English for select game titles, with plans to support more languages and game titles in the future.
“Google Play Games Sidekick”
“Google Play Games Sidekick” is an in-game overlay tool that was originally announced as part of the “Google Play Games” renewal on September 23, 2025.
For certain premium titles, it will be rolled out as a feature that allows users to access AI-generated “Game Tips” and relevant information directly while playing.
