On Thursday, October 8, 2026 local time, Google announced the discontinuation of “Safety Signal“—a feature provided for the 4G LTE versions of the Google Pixel smartwatches “Google Pixel Watch 2” and “Google Pixel Watch 3” that allows users to utilize the safety features of the “Personal Safety” app without a mobile network subscription—effective Saturday, December 12, 2026.
“Safety Signal” is a safety feature provided on the 4G LTE versions of the “Google Pixel Watch 2” and “Google Pixel Watch 3” for subscribers of “Google Health Premium” (formerly Fitbit Premium). On 4G LTE versions of the “Google Pixel Watch 2” and “Google Pixel Watch 3” that do not have a mobile network subscription (such as carrier shared number services or wearable mobile plans), users can still utilize safety features like “Emergency SOS” and “Fall Detection” by leveraging the 4G LTE network even when a paired Android device is not nearby.
However, this “Safety Signal” feature on the 4G LTE versions of the “Google Pixel Watch 2” and “Google Pixel Watch 3” will be discontinued on Saturday, December 12, 2026. Afterward, safety features such as “Emergency SOS” and “Fall Detection” will no longer be available on 4G LTE versions of the “Google Pixel Watch 2” and “Google Pixel Watch 3” if a paired Android device is not nearby and there is no mobile network subscription.
If you wish to continue using safety features on the 4G LTE versions of the “Google Pixel Watch 2” and “Google Pixel Watch 3”, you will need to subscribe to a mobile network plan, maintain a Wi-Fi connection, or keep the paired Android device within Bluetooth connection range.
Users of the 4G LTE versions of the “Google Pixel Watch 2” and “Google Pixel Watch 3” who currently use “Safety Signal” will be notified in advance of the feature’s discontinuation via email and push notifications.
