On Wednesday, August 12, 2026 local time, Google announced “Tap to Share,” a new tap-based gesture sharing feature between devices that leverages the mechanism of the Android close-range sharing feature “Quick Share.”

The new tap-based gesture sharing feature, “Tap to Share,” is a convenient function that lets you share photos, videos, contact information, and more simply by tapping devices together. It is easy to use: just keep the share menu or the “Quick Share” page open, and tap the devices together.

Shared files are stored in the “Quick Share” folder. You can also turn off “Tap to Share” from the “Quick Share” settings.

“Tap to Share” is the tap-based gesture sharing feature that had long been rumored to be in development under names like “Contact Exchange” or “Gesture Exchange.”

“Tap to Share”

“Tap to Share” will first roll out to Google Pixel devices from the “Pixel 6” and later running the new-generation Android OS “Android 17” or later. It is scheduled to expand to non-Pixel Android devices afterward.
