In mid-December 2025, the “Google Store,” Google’s official e-commerce site, revealed a behind-the-scenes look at some of the durability tests performed on the Google Pixel series, designed to simulate various everyday accidents.

Google appears to be conducting a wide range of durability tests for the Google Pixel series, including drop, bend, water resistance, and button/hinge resilience. In the drop test, which simulates one of the most common accidents, the device’s durability is tested by dropping it from a height of 1 meter.

Bending tests are also conducted to simulate scenarios such as sitting down while the smartphone is in a pocket.

Starting with the “Pixel 9” series (excluding the “Pixel 9 Pro Fold”), Google Pixel devices meet the IP68 standard for water and dust resistance. Notably, the new generation foldable Google Pixel device, the “Pixel 10 Pro Fold,” has become the first in its category to support the IP68 water and dust resistance rating.

To verify these high standards, Google Pixel devices—including the “Google Pixel Watch” series—undergo water resistance tests where they are submerged in 1.5 meters of fresh water for approximately 30 minutes to ensure that no water enters the interior.

Durability tests are also performed on the power and volume buttons, testing exactly how many presses they can withstand during actual use.

For the “Pixel 10 Pro Fold,” which features the first application of “Cam” gearless hinge technology, opening and closing tests are conducted using a specialized machine. The hinge of the “Pixel 10 Pro Fold” is reportedly designed to withstand more than 10 years of folding operations.

This latest release from Google confirms the high level of durability built into the Google Pixel series. In fact, there are remarkable real-world cases from overseas, such as a “Pixel 6a” that was exposed to snow, mud, and rain for six months, yet still powered on and functioned normally when recovered. In short, Google Pixel devices are not only high-spec and high-performance but are also built with exceptional durability in mind.
