  • Google has released the “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7” beta OS update for Google Pixel devices enrolled in the “Android Beta Program,” a preview program for trying out unreleased versions of the Android OS.
  • The software update is being rolled out via Over-the-Air (OTA) to a total of 23 models enrolled in the “Android Beta Program”: Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel 10a, Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold.
  • Two bugs have been fixed: an issue where the “Flip to Shh” feature (which switches to “Do Not Disturb” when the device is placed face down) prevented devices from entering deep sleep, causing excessive battery drain during standby, and an issue where HTTPS downloads initiated via the system’s “DownloadManager” failed immediately.

On Friday, October 9, 2026 local time, Google released the beta OS update “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7” for Google Pixel devices enrolled in the pre-release Android OS trial program, the “Android Beta Program.”

“Android 17 QPR2,” which serves as the base for “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7,” is the second update group following “Android 17 QPR1” in the Quarterly Platform Releases (QPR) rolled out after the official release of “Android 17.” Meanwhile, “Android 17 QPR2 Beta x” acts as the beta OS leading up to the official release.

The newly released “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7” is being delivered via Over-the-Air (OTA) software update to a total of 23 models enrolled in the “Android Beta Program”: “Pixel 6a,” “Pixel 7,” “Pixel 7 Pro,” “Pixel 7a,” “Pixel Fold,” “Pixel Tablet,” “Pixel 8,” “Pixel 8 Pro,” “Pixel 8a,” “Pixel 9,” “Pixel 9 Pro,” “Pixel 9 Pro XL,” “Pixel 9 Pro Fold,” “Pixel 9a,” “Pixel 10,” “Pixel 10 Pro,” “Pixel 10 Pro XL,” “Pixel 10 Pro Fold,” “Pixel 10a,” “Pixel 11,” “Pixel 11 Pro,” “Pixel 11 Pro XL,” and “Pixel 11 Pro Fold.” Unlike the previous “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6,” the new-generation Google Pixel “Pixel 11” series is included as eligible devices in this “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7” release.

As a side note, starting with “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1,” the “Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have been excluded” from the list of eligible devices.

The newly released “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7” focuses primarily on bug fixes. It resolves two issues: an issue where the “Flip to Shh” feature—which switches the device to “Do Not Disturb” when placed face down—prevented devices from entering deep sleep and caused excessive battery drain during standby, and an issue where HTTPS downloads initiated via the system’s “DownloadManager” failed immediately. On the other hand, as a known issue, users of the “Pixel 11 Pro Fold” may need to re-register their face data for “Face Unlock” to function properly.

Additionally, “Android 17 QPR2” continues to introduce “Call Forwarding Hardening” aimed at preventing scam fraud. Call forwarding USSD codes (such as “*21#”) executed via the “TelephonyManager.sendUssdRequest()” API are analyzed by the system to block background execution from general apps that only hold the “CALL_PHONE” permission. Furthermore, when a user manually enters a call forwarding code via the system dialer, an OS-level confirmation dialog will appear before execution. Note that USSD requests that do not involve call forwarding, such as mobile money transfers or balance inquiries, are not affected by this change.

Furthermore, “Android 17 QPR2” optimizes how “self-broadcasts” are delivered. Self-broadcasts refer to broadcasts sent by an app where all receivers also run within the same process as the sender. Starting with “Android 17 QPR2,” this has been changed so that the sending process itself handles them on the main thread, preventing apps from repeatedly sending broadcasts to themselves and continuing to run in the background. This change applies to all apps regardless of their “targetSdkVersion.”
