On Tuesday, September 29, 2026 local time, Google released the beta OS update “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.1” for Google Pixel devices enrolled in the pre-release Android OS trial program, the “Android Beta Program.”
“Android 17 QPR2,” which serves as the base for “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.1,” is the second set of updates following “Android 17 QPR1” (the first set of quarterly platform releases, or QPRs, rolled out after the official release of “Android 17”). Meanwhile, “Android 17 QPR2 Beta x” acts as the beta OS leading up to the official release.
The newly released “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.1” is being delivered via Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates to a total of 23 models: the “Pixel 6a,” “Pixel 7,” “Pixel 7 Pro,” “Pixel 7a,” “Pixel Fold,” “Pixel Tablet,” “Pixel 8,” “Pixel 8 Pro,” “Pixel 8a,” “Pixel 9,” “Pixel 9 Pro,” “Pixel 9 Pro XL,” “Pixel 9 Pro Fold,” “Pixel 9a,” “Pixel 10,” “Pixel 10 Pro,” “Pixel 10 Pro XL,” “Pixel 10 Pro Fold,” and “Pixel 10a,” along with the new-generation Google Pixel devices “Pixel 11,” “Pixel 11 Pro,” “Pixel 11 Pro XL,” and “Pixel 11 Pro Fold.” While the previous “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6” did not include the “Pixel 11” series, they are included in this “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.1” update.
As a side note, starting with “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1,” the “Pixel 6” and “Pixel 6 Pro” have been excluded from the eligible devices.

The newly released “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.1” is a minor update to the previous “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.” Although no specific bug fixes have been announced for “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.1,” it has been reported that users of the “Pixel 11 Pro Fold” may need to re-register their “Face Unlock” as a known issue.
It remains unclear why only the “Pixel 11 Pro Fold” is affected, but users enrolled in the “Android Beta Program” with a “Pixel 11 Pro Fold” should exercise caution.

Starting with “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3,” “Android 17 QPR2” introduced a standout feature aimed at preventing fraud: the “hardening of call forwarding functionality.” Call forwarding USSD codes (such as “*21#”) executed via the “TelephonyManager.sendUssdRequest()” API are now analyzed on the system side to block background execution from general apps holding only the “CALL_PHONE” permission. Additionally, when a user manually enters a call forwarding code from the system dialer, an OS-level confirmation dialog appears before execution.
Note that USSD requests that do not involve call forwarding, such as mobile money transfers or balance inquiries, are not affected by this change.
