On Friday, August 28, 2026, local time, Google released the beta OS update “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4” for Google Pixel devices enrolled in the pre-release Android OS trial program, the “Android Beta Program.”

“Android 17 QPR2,” which serves as the foundation for “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4,” is the second set of updates following the first update group “Android 17 QPR1” for the Quarterly Platform Releases (QPR) rolled out after the official release of “Android 17.” Furthermore, “Android 17 QPR2 Beta x” acts as the beta OS leading up to the official release.

“Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4” is being delivered via Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates to a total of 19 models enrolled in the Android Beta Program: the “Pixel 6a,” “Pixel 7,” “Pixel 7 Pro,” “Pixel 7a,” “Pixel Fold,” “Pixel Tablet,” “Pixel 8,” “Pixel 8 Pro,” “Pixel 8a,” “Pixel 9,” “Pixel 9 Pro,” “Pixel 9 Pro XL,” “Pixel 9 Pro Fold,” “Pixel 9a,” “Pixel 10,” “Pixel 10 Pro,” “Pixel 10 Pro XL,” “Pixel 10 Pro Fold,” and “Pixel 10a.” The next-generation Google Pixel devices released on Thursday, August 20, 2026—the “Pixel 11,” “Pixel 11 Pro,” “Pixel 11 Pro XL,” and “Pixel 11 Pro Fold”—are not yet included in the lineup.

Note that starting from “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1,” the “Pixel 6” and “Pixel 6 Pro” remain excluded from supported devices.

While the previous “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3” introduced the hardening of call-forwarding features aimed at preventing fraud as its headline feature, this “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4” is built upon Beta 3 and incorporates as many as 16 bug fixes.

■ Main Bug Fixes and Improvements in “Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4”
  • Fixed an issue where the launcher status bar became transparent after finishing full-screen video playback when the developer option “Display apps in cutout area” was enabled.
  • Fixed a thermal management bug where devices overheated during use and unexpectedly restarted.
  • Fixed an issue where screen mirroring to external USB Type-C connected XR glasses did not work.
  • Fixed an issue where gesture navigation became unresponsive when displaying apps in the cutout area.
  • Fixed an issue where the battery 80% charge limit optimization caused the final 2% of charging to take an abnormally long time.
  • Fixed a launcher UI bug where text input was not processed when searching for apps in the app drawer.
  • Fixed an issue where the background blur effect behind the navigation bar did not appear when invoking the power menu from hardware buttons.
  • Fixed an issue where call audio defaulted to the device speaker instead of a connected Bluetooth device.
  • Fixed an issue where the leading task card intermittently froze and was clipped behind other apps while horizontally scrolling in the “Recent Apps” screen.
  • Fixed an issue where an audio service resource lock occurred during screen recording, making the microphone unusable in apps like “Gboard” and “Gemini” until the device was rebooted.
  • Fixed a System UI display inconsistency where turning off the screen from the home screen resulted in a simple fade rather than the power button shutdown animation.
  • Fixed an issue in dark mode where the gear icon for connected Wi-Fi settings had low contrast and was difficult to see.
  • Fixed an issue where the screen went completely black when enabling 3D mode on connected smart glasses.
  • Fixed a UI issue where the notification shade could not be pulled down all the way.
  • Fixed an issue where WebGL applications froze or crashed the browser process due to invalid memory reads in texture state handling within the PowerVR GPU driver when combining shadow maps and vertex color attributes.
  • Fixed an issue in low-light environments where facial recognition failures forced a PIN entry without falling back to fingerprint authentication.
