On Thursday, February 26, 2026, Google released “Android 17 Beta 2,” the second update following the first beta version of the next-generation Android OS, “Android 17,” which was released on Friday, February 13, 2026.
“Android 17 Beta 2” is being delivered as an “Over the Air (OTA)” software update to the following Google Pixel devices registered in the “Android Beta Program,” a pre-release Android OS trial program: Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Google has previously released initial versions of the beta OS as “Developer Previews,” but to release updates more quickly and consistently, they have replaced them with the “Android Canary” channel. Note that the introduction of the “Android Canary” channel requires a manual factory image flash using the “Android Flash Tool” for the initial setup.
Additionally, OTA images for “Android 17 Beta 2” have also been made public, allowing users to flash “Android 17 Beta 2” using the “Android Flash Tool.”
In “Android 17 Beta 2,” the efforts to build a platform that prioritizes privacy, security, and refined performance continue from “Android 17 Beta 1.” Furthermore, new features and APIs are supported, such as “Bubbles” window display for apps, an “Eyedropper” tool to capture colors from the display, and “Handoff,” an extension for “Cross-device services.”

Several bug fixes have also been implemented in “Android 17 Beta 2.”
| ■ Android 17 Beta 2 Bug Fixes |
| ・A regression in Android 16 platform stability that caused active apps to unexpectedly restart or refresh, resulting in loss of user progress or intermittent UI flickering, has been resolved. ・Fixed a UI layout regression in the “Recent Apps” screen when using German language settings. ・Improved video streaming reliability by allowing developers to check for temporal layer support via getOutputFormat after configuring the encoder to address missing frame-dependent metadata. ・Fixed an issue where the leading zero in 24-hour format was omitted for the clock screensaver during low-light mode. ・Fixed an issue where closing a folder would block immediate subsequent actions, such as opening another folder or switching screens. ・Fixed system crashes and sudden restarts that interrupted device usage. ・Resolved critical system instability where the device would freeze and restart during app transitions or service calls. ・Fixed an issue where disconnecting from “Android Auto” caused the lock screen to become unresponsive and the display to hang due to a system UI deadlock. ・Corrected a typo in the system location permission disclosure dialog UI, where the back button was incorrectly displayed as “Bac.” ・Fixed an issue where “Live Translate” and “Rules” were incorrectly categorized in the system menu. ・Fixed an issue where repeated navigation to display and touch settings caused a critical system UI crash, leading to subsequent device instability. ・Fixed a bug preventing users from opening wallpaper and style settings from the home screen, which caused a persistent crash. ・Resolved a UI layout issue in the wireless debugging QR scanner where the back arrow overlapped the QR icon. ・Fixed an issue in sound settings where selecting a ringtone preview would not play the sound. ・Resolved an issue where redundant notifications appeared after a system update by correctly clearing old alerts during the post-update initialization process. ・Fixed a bug in the Pixel 6 Pro GPU shader compiler where certain GLSL formulas were incorrectly evaluated as constants, causing visual rendering artifacts in apps. |
