Android 17 Beta 1 Released for Google Pixel

On Friday, February 13, 2026, Google released “Android 17 Beta 1,” the first beta version of the next-generation Android OS, “Android 17.”

“Android 17 Beta 1” was originally scheduled for release on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, but in a rare turn of events, the release was postponed just before it was due. However, the official release followed just two days later.

“Android 17 Beta 1” is being delivered via “OTA (Over the Air)” software updates to Google Pixel devices that have introduced the “Android Canary” channel—a program for testing pre-release Android APIs and the latest builds. Eligible devices include the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. To join the “Android Canary” channel for the first time, a manual factory image flash using the “Android Flash Tool” is required.

OTA images for “Android 17 Beta 1” have also been made available, so they can be flashed using the “Android Flash Tool.”

“Android 17 Beta 1” introduces major enhancements to camera and media functionality, new tools for optimizing connectivity, and profile extensions for companion devices. After updating to “Android 17 Beta 1,” the build number will be “CP21.260116.011.B1” or “CP21.260116.011.A1,” the Android security patch will be dated “January 5, 2026,” and the “Google Play services” app will be updated to v25.47.33 or later.

Following this release of “Android 17 Beta 1,” “Android 17 Beta 2” is expected to be released next month in March 2026, with the final version leading up to the major “Android 17” update scheduled for release from April 2026 onwards.

Furthermore, similar to last year’s “Android 16″—where the major update was released in Q2 2025 followed by the minor update “Android 16 QPR2” in Q4—the next-generation “Android 17” is also planned to have its major update in Q2 2026 and its minor update “Android 17 QPR2 (tentative)” in Q4 2026.
