On Tuesday, September 1, 2026 local time, Google finally launched “Google Pics,” a new AI image creation and editing tool based on the latest generative AI model “Nano Banana,” which was announced at the developer event “Google I/O 2026” held in May 2026.
“Google Pics” will be rolled out gradually over the next few weeks for “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” members, as well as “Google Workspace” business plans.
“Google Pics” is an AI image editing tool that not only generates images from text prompts, but also allows you to individually select objects within an image to move, resize, or delete them—enabling pinpoint editing of specific areas without having to regenerate the entire image. It supports a wide range of use cases, such as creating posters, social media post images, and digital illustrations.
Additionally, “Google Pics” makes it possible to edit or translate text within an image while preserving the original design and font. Because multiple image variations are generated from a single prompt, you can choose your favorite finished result from the options.
While “Google Pics” can be used as a standalone image creation and editing tool, integration into various “Google Workspace” apps is also underway. Integration with “Google Docs” and “Google Slides” begins today, allowing users to create and edit images without having to switch between apps.
Integration with “Google Drive” is also scheduled to roll out within the next few weeks. Furthermore, “Google Pics” can be accessed directly via “pics.new.”
