Google Photos “Google One Storage Management Tool” Issue

Key Points of This Article
  • Google has reported a bug that occurred when downloading content from the online photo storage service “Google Photos” using the “Google One storage management tool.”
  • The issue occurred when downloading more than 4GB of “Google Photos” content via the “Google One storage management tool,” resulting in corrupted ZIP files that could not be extracted.
  • The bug itself has already been fixed.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, Google reported a bug that affected users downloading “Google Photos” content via the Google One storage management tool.

The issue reported by Google involved users attempting to download more than 4GB of “Google Photos” content using the storage management tool, which caused the resulting ZIP files to be improperly created and impossible to extract. While this bug has been fixed and downloading more than 4GB of content now results in correctly created ZIP files, any ZIP files downloaded while the bug was active remain corrupted and cannot be extracted.

If you have a corrupted file, you can either simply download the content from “Google Photos” again, or use the repair tool released by Google (https://photos.google.com/2026zipfilerepair) to fix the damaged ZIP file. Please note that this repair tool will only be available for a limited time until Tuesday, June 1, 2027.
