On Tuesday, July 28, 2026 (local time), Google announced a new direct camera launch feature now rolling out to the Android and iOS versions of the “Google Photos” app.
The direct camera launch feature rolling out to the Android and iOS versions of the “Google Photos” app allows users to directly apply AI editing features—such as “Remix video” and “Remix photo”—to newly captured photos and videos. When you select a desired template from the “Create” tab, instead of the usual view showing a list of photos and videos already saved in Google Photos, a newly added camera icon will appear, allowing you to launch the camera directly and take a picture or video right on the spot.
This enables you to immediately apply the previously selected “Remix video” or “Remix photo” templates to the newly captured media.
However, as of Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the direct camera launch feature in the Android and iOS versions of the “Google Photos” app has not yet been confirmed. It is expected to be rolling out gradually.
