Google Photos Conversational Editing Rollout: Now Expanding to Japan, India, and Australia

Key Points of This Article
  • Google re-announced the expansion of “Conversational Editing” in the Android version of the “Google Photos” app to Japan, India, and Australia.
  • In addition to the existing English support, Japanese and several regional languages for India and its surrounding areas—Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu—have been added as supported languages for “Conversational Editing.”
  • This move highlights Google’s recent strategic focus on the Indian market.

Google Japan recently announced on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the release of “Conversational Editing” (Help me edit) for Android devices in Japan. This Google AI “Gemini” integrated photo editing feature within the “Google Photos” app was initially launched for the new generation Google Pixel “Pixel 10” series and later expanded to other Android devices.

Then, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Google HQ re-announced the expansion of “Conversational Editing” in the “Google Photos” Android app to Japan, India, and Australia. It appears that the rollout of “Conversational Editing” in the “Google Photos” app for Android has been extended beyond Japan to include India and Australia as well.

Furthermore, the supported languages for “Conversational Editing” now include Japanese and several languages for India and its neighboring regions—Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu—in addition to the existing English. This reflects Google’s significant focus on the Indian market lately; for instance, the rollout of “AI Mode” in India was also quite rapid.

“Conversational Editing”

“Conversational Editing” in the “Google Photos” Android app is an AI feature that allows users to request photo edits through prompts. By simply entering the desired edits into the “Gemini” prompt window on the editing screen of the “Google Photos” app, the requested edits are performed accordingly.

Users don’t need to manually select which tools to use; they can specify multiple editing tasks at once, such as “remove the car in the background,” “restore this old photo,” or “fix the faded colors while removing reflections.” For vague prompts like “make this photo look better,” the AI can provide recommended editing options and also supports further fine-tuning of the edited photo.

Additionally, the “Conversational Editing” feature being rolled out in Japan utilizes the Nano Banana AI image generation model, just like its overseas counterparts, enabling precise AI image generation.

Furthermore, Google’s “About this photo” initiative—which provides detailed information on whether a photo was generated or edited by AI in accordance with the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) digital content verification metadata standards—will also be rolled out simultaneously with “Conversational Editing.”

While “Conversational Editing” is being released for Android in Japan, it is worth noting that it has already been rolled out for the iOS version of the “Google Photos” app overseas.
