On Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Google began rolling out the 2025 version, “Recap (2025 Recap),” for its online photo library service, Google Photos, on Android and iOS. This follows last year’s “2024 Recap,” a memories feature launched in early December 2024 that looks back on the year’s photos in a highlight reel.

Moreover, this year’s 2025 “Recap” also adds new ways to customize, create, and share.

“Recap” is a feature within the Google Photos “Memories” carousel that highlights memorable photos and moments from the year with fun graphics and cinematic effects. While last year’s “2024 Recap” introduced photo statistics like the total number of photos, the 2025 version now also includes a count of selfies.

In the U.S., there will also be an introduction to hobbies and key highlights based on the “Recap,” powered by Google AI “Gemini.”

Additionally, the 2025 “Recap” adds an option to hide specific people or photos. This is a new feature added based on user feedback.

Furthermore, in 2025, a new “Edit with CapCut” button has been added to edit your “Recap” in “CapCut,” the AI video editing app developed by ByteDance. You can now export your “Recap” and edit it in the CapCut app.

In addition, you can now easily share the short videos and “collages” created and used in the carousel-style “Recap” to social media and more.

“Recap” Sharing

The 2025 “Recap” will be pinned in the “Library” tab of Google Photos throughout December 2025. Then, during January 2026, it will be fixed to the December 2025 timeline in the “Photos” tab. Note that “Recap” is an exclusive feature for the Android/iOS Google Photos app and will not appear on the desktop version of Google Photos.
