Google Pay May Soon Support ICOCA, TOICA, and PayPay Money

  • It appears Google Wallet (Google Pay) will add support for three new e-money services: ICOCA (a transit IC service from JR West), TOICA (from JR Central), and PayPay Money (from PayPay Corporation).
  • References to support for these three e-money services—ICOCA, TOICA, and PayPay Money—were discovered in the HTML code of the “Check supported payment methods (Japan)” page on the official Google Wallet Help site.
  • This has suddenly raised the possibility of Google Wallet (Google Pay) support for ICOCA, TOICA, and PayPay Money.

Google Wallet (Google Pay), the cashless payment service for Android, currently supports five types of e-money: Suica, PASMO, Rakuten Edy, WAON, and nanaco.

However, it now appears that support is coming for three more e-money services: ICOCA, the transit IC service from JR West; TOICA from JR Central; and PayPay Money from PayPay Corporation. We discovered mentions of support for these three e-money services—ICOCA, TOICA, and PayPay Money—within the HTML code of the ‘Check supported payment methods (Japan)‘ page on the official Google Wallet Help site.

This has suddenly raised the possibility that ICOCA, TOICA, and PayPay Money will be integrated with Google Wallet (Google Pay).

Although these descriptions exist in the HTML, they have not yet appeared on the visible page. This suggests that preparations for Google Wallet (Google Pay) support for ICOCA, TOICA, and PayPay Money are currently underway.

Therefore, the specific launch date for Google Wallet (Google Pay) support for ICOCA, TOICA, and PayPay Money is unknown. For the record, our site’s independent investigation confirmed these descriptions in October 2025.

However, while ICOCA has been available as “Mobile ICOCA” since March 2023, the mobile version of TOICA, “Mobile TOICA,” is scheduled to launch in spring 2026 or later (PDF). This means that Google Wallet (Google Pay) support for TOICA (Mobile TOICA) will likely not arrive until after spring 2026. That said, since “Mobile TOICA” will be a transit IC service utilizing the “Mobile ICOCA” system, there is some hope for a potentially earlier release.

The interesting part is “PayPay Money.” Currently, Google Wallet (Google Pay) supports NFC tap-to-pay via PayPay Card (Visa / Mastercard), but there is no tap-to-pay feature for “PayPay Money” itself. Therefore, it is expected that the Google Wallet (Google Pay) integration for “PayPay Money” will likely be a tap-to-pay service that doesn’t require a PayPay Card, possibly utilizing NFC or FeliCa-based payments like “iD” or “QUICPay.” However, the specific details are still unknown.

In any case, ICOCA is finally coming to Google Wallet (Google Pay).
