Google NotebookLM Introduces ‘Deep Research’

  • Google announces the introduction of “Deep Research,” an advanced AI report generation feature, for “NotebookLM (Google NotebookLM)”.
  • “Deep Research” in NotebookLM is a feature that allows you to add reports generated by “Deep Research” as a “source” to your notebook.
  • In the search bar within the “Add sources” section of a notebook, you can select “Deep Research,” enter keywords for the desired report, and submit. “Deep Research” will then begin generating the report, which can be added as a “source” upon completion.

On Thursday, November 13, 2025, Google announced the introduction of “Deep Research,” an advanced AI report generation feature, as a new function for NotebookLM (Google NotebookLM), its research and writing assistant tool powered by Google’s AI, Gemini.

“Deep Research” in NotebookLM is a feature that allows you to add reports generated by it as a “source” in your notebook. In the search bar within the “Add sources” section of a notebook, you can select “Deep Research,” enter keywords for the report you want to generate, and submit. This will initiate the report generation by “Deep Research,” and once completed, you can add it as a source.

For users who previously generated reports in Gemini and then added them as sources to NotebookLM, this is a significant improvement in convenience as the entire process can now be completed within NotebookLM. Furthermore, “Deep Research” in NotebookLM can be instructed to generate reports not only from information across the entire web but also from specific locations such as Google Drive.

While “Deep Research” in NotebookLM is generating a report, you can still add other sources or issue commands in the “Studio,” such as requesting “audio explanations” or “video explanations.” “Deep Research” for NotebookLM will begin rolling out within the next week.
