On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Google announced the further expansion of “Scam Detection,” a security feature for the Google Messages app that was initially rolled out to the US, UK, and Canada in the March 2025 “New Android Features” update.

“Scam Detection” in the Google Messages app is a feature where the on-device AI model “Gemini Nano” detects text patterns associated with fraudulent conversations and flags them as scams in real time. When the Google Messages app applies a scam flag, users can easily block the conversation and report the scam.

This protects users from the dangers of scam messages that may appear harmless at first glance. Currently, the feature is available on select Android devices, such as the Google Pixel 10 series.

With this latest update, “Scam Detection” in Google Messages now supports multiple languages including Arabic, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish, and has expanded to more than 20 countries. It is also scheduled to be rolled out to the Samsung Galaxy S26 series.
