Google Maps “Immersive Navigation” provides an immersive driving experience that renders surrounding buildings, terrain, and complex intersections in vivid 3D. It also highlights critical road information necessary for driving decisions, such as lanes, crosswalks, traffic lights, and stop signs.
Immersive Navigation features smart zoom and transparent building views to assist with complex turns and lane changes. Additionally, voice guidance has evolved to provide more natural and intuitive instructions, such as, “Pass this exit, then take the next one.”
Furthermore, the system clearly presents the pros and cons of different routes, such as “a longer route with no traffic” or “a faster route with tolls.” Users will also receive real-time alerts regarding obstacles like accidents or road construction.
Additionally, Immersive Navigation allows you to preview the area around your destination using Street View before arrival. It highlights building entrances and recommended parking, eliminating the stress of searching for a spot once you reach your destination.
Immersive Navigation for Google Maps is initially rolling out across the United States for the Google Maps app on Android and iOS. Over the coming months, it is scheduled to expand to Android Auto, CarPlay, and vehicles with Google built-in.
