Following an analysis of the app files for the Android version of “Google Keep” v5.26.191.02.90, released on Monday, May 18, 2026, we confirmed that resource code related to internal testing for a Markdown export function for notes has been added. We know this is for internal testing because the string “debug,” which indicates debugging activity, is explicitly included.

“Google Keep” began rolling out rich text formatting options for notes in the Android app in late August 2023, followed by the web version in May 2025. With the rollout of these rich text options, users have been able to format notes using [Heading styles (H1 / H2)], [Bold (B)], [Italic (I)], [Underline (U)], and more. However, because there is no feature to export these notes while maintaining that rich text formatting, the formatted notes can currently only be viewed within “Google Keep.”
It is likely that the Markdown export function is being prepared to resolve this limitation. Once it becomes possible to export formatted notes in Markdown format, users will be able to reuse these formatted notes seamlessly in other note-taking services that support Markdown.
Please note that as of May 2026, the iOS version of the “Google Keep” app has not yet received the rich text formatting options.
