On Tuesday, July 14, 2026 (local time), Google announced two new features coming to “Google Images,” which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
The newly announced features for Google Images include a new “Home” interface and the introduction of the generative AI model “Nano Banana.” Please note that both features are initially rolling out only in English-language environments and are not yet available in Japanese.
New “Home” Interface

A new, immersive “Home” page is being introduced for Google Images. This interface intelligently displays content tailored to a user’s interests while updating images from the web in real-time.
In this new “Home,” ideas you save to “Collections” while browsing search results appear as tabs at the top of the gallery, allowing you to easily resume exploring based on your interests. This new interface will roll out to the desktop version of Google Images in the U.S. English environment over the coming weeks.
Please note that signing in to a Google Account is required to use the new “Home.”
Introduction of Generative AI “Nano Banana”
For instances where you cannot find the image you are looking for in Google Images, a new image generation feature powered by the “Nano Banana” generative AI model is being integrated into “AI Overviews.”
The “Nano Banana” feature in Google Images allows users to generate high-quality original images from simple text prompts. This feature will be rolled out over the coming weeks to English-language regions that support “AI mode” for image generation.
