The newly announced “Google Home” features include a major update to smart camera functions, an upgrade to “Gemini 3.1” for “Gemini for Home (Early Access),” new “Automations” for supported devices such as smart locks and robot vacuums, the deployment of “Ask Home” for the web version of “Google Home,” and improvements to notification features in “Google Home (Public Preview).” Note that “Google Home (Public Preview)” refers to the “Google Home” app enrolled in the “Public Preview” version, distinct from “Gemini for Home (Early Access).”


Major Smart Camera Feature Update

Gemini for Home (Early Access) “Gemini 3.1” Upgrade
The AI model powering the voice assistant feature “Gemini for Home (Early Access)” has been upgraded to “Gemini 3.1.”
With advanced reasoning capabilities, “Gemini 3.1” improves execution, allowing tasks that previously required multiple steps to be handled in a single instruction. Additionally, calendar and alarm management have been enhanced.

Web Version of Google Home “Ask Home” Rollout
The “Gemini”-integrated feature “Ask Home” is rolling out to the web version of “Google Home.”
This makes it easier to search smart camera history, check device status, and create “Automations” directly from a PC browser. Note that “Ask Home” on the web version of “Google Home” is being released as a “Public Preview.”
Notification Improvements
Improvements to the “Google Home” app notifications include the addition of “Quick Action” buttons to the notification screen, allowing you to instantly control devices without opening the app.
Additionally, for users managing multiple homes or rooms, a feature has been added to automatically switch to the appropriate home without extra clicks. Please note that these notification improvements for the “Google Home” app are also being rolled out as a “Public Preview.”
