Google Gemini Introduces 6 Improvements to Usage Limits

Key Points of This Article
  • Josh Woodward, Head of the Gemini app, announced usage limit improvements based on six key areas to be rolled out sequentially.
  • These measures are designed to address user dissatisfaction.
  • The improvements are categorized into three pillars: limit relaxation/bug fixes, error policy changes, and usability enhancements, encompassing six specific areas of improvement.

Josh Woodward (@joshwoodward), Head of the Google AI “Gemini” app (@GeminiApp), announced on Thursday, May 28, 2026 (local time), that a series of improvements to usage limits will be rolled out to the Gemini app across six key areas.

The Gemini app underwent a significant renewal starting with Google I/O 2026. This wasn’t just a major UI refresh and the launch of new features; it also introduced a new usage counting method based on computational load, determined by prompt complexity, features used, and chat length, which has substantially changed the user experience. While improvements to convenience are welcome, the honest reality is that many users have expressed frustration, as it has become easier to hit usage limits and face restrictions on AI model access.

In response, Josh Woodward has announced six improvement measures for the Gemini app specifically intended to address these user complaints. The announcement is divided into three categories: relaxation of usage limits and bug fixes, error policy changes, and usability improvements, covering six distinct areas of focus.

■ Relaxation of Usage Limits and Bug Fixes
➀ Fixes for “Gemini Omni” bugs and increased limits
  • Fixed an issue where the “Gemini Omni” usage limit was reached after generating only 1–2 videos.
  • Doubled the video generation limit for “Gemini Omni” for Google AI Ultra members.
② Capping “3.1 Pro” (Gemini 3.1 Pro) consumption
  • To address issues where usage limits were rapidly depleted by complex tasks, such as attaching large files, the system will now cap the consumption per individual prompt.
③ Excluding “3.1 Flash Lite” (Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite) from counts
  • Prompts using “3.1 Flash Lite” will no longer count toward usage limits.
■ Error Policy Changes
④ Errors and failed tasks excluded from usage counts
  • If a process fails due to a system error or similar issue, it will not count toward the usage limit (only successful tasks will be counted).
■ Usability Improvements
⑤ Usage breakdown and notification features for high-load tasks like “Deep Research”
  • Detailed usage breakdown and notification features are being deployed so users can plan their usage for high-load tasks like “Deep Research.”
⑥ Maintaining selected AI model
  • The system will now maintain the selected AI model for future sessions (excluding instances where the system automatically falls back to a lighter model due to reaching usage limits).
The 6 Usage Limit Improvements Coming to the Gemini App

The six improvements introduced to the Gemini app include fixes for Gemini Omni usage limit bugs and the exclusion of “3.1 Flash Lite” from usage counts. Furthermore, the deployment of detailed usage breakdown and notification features on the usage limit page will enable users to utilize the Gemini app and its AI models more efficiently.
