- Google AI “Gemini” app introduces a new “Browser” setting.
- A setting that allows you to choose how “Gemini” browses the web to complete tasks.
- Two options are available: “Let Gemini decide” and “Remote browser only.”
In early November 2026, a new “Browser” setting was introduced in the Google AI “Gemini” app.
This newly added “Browser” setting in the “Gemini” app allows users to choose how “Gemini” browses the web to complete tasks. Specifically, it offers two options: “Let Gemini decide” and “Remote browser only.”

The “Let Gemini decide” option is explained as, “Uses the best browser for each task (Chrome on your device or a remote browser).” As this implies, it is a hybrid specification where “Gemini” automatically determines and switches between the local browser (Chrome) and a cloud-based browser depending on the process. Basically, keeping “Let Gemini decide” set as the default should be the best choice.
On the other hand, “Remote browser only” fixes web processing to a cloud-based browser environment. As noted, “Works even when you’re away or your device isn’t handy,” it is positioned as a task-specific option that can be used when you want to ensure background tasks continue to process smoothly.
Furthermore, within the “Browser” settings screen, there is a “Permissions” setting (defaulting to “Always ask”) where you can choose whether to prompt for permission each time a browser is opened for task processing, as well as a “Clear remote browser data” button to delete cookies accumulated in the remote browser and log out of websites.

The “Browser” settings are rolling out across the Web, Android, and iOS versions of the “Gemini” app.
