Ask Gemini & AI Overviews Coming to Google Drive on Mobile

“Ask Gemini in Drive” and “AI Overviews” are features that began rolling out to desktop environments between March and April 2026, including support for the Japanese language.

“Ask Gemini in Drive” allows users to ask complex questions directly within Google Drive. For instance, if you ask a question like, “What should I ask my tax accountant before filing my tax return?”, Gemini provides detailed answers based on the data stored in your files.

Specifically, you can access “Ask Gemini in Drive” via the Gemini icon at the top of the Google Drive screen. Similar to the standalone Gemini app, your interaction history is saved, allowing you to pick up exactly where you left off.

“AI Overviews” is a feature that, when you search using natural language in the Google Drive search bar, displays an AI-generated summary of the search results at the top, including citations. This allows users to grasp answers to their queries instantly without needing to open the files themselves.

Users can also transition from “AI Overviews” to “Ask Gemini in Drive” to explore the topic further in greater depth.

AI Overviews (Desktop)

“Ask Gemini in Drive” and “AI Overviews” on the Android and iOS Google Drive apps are available for users with Google Workspace accounts, as well as those with “Google One” AI Premium plans, including “Google AI Pro” and “Google AI Ultra” memberships.
